  • Terms for Higher Education

Posted by Susan Whiting on May 24, 2010 11:43 AM PDT | Active

Traditionally distance education terms for post secondary education does not for the most part, contain the element of requiring specific day or times of days to meet their attendance qualifications.  They are rather more flexible keeping in mind the adult learners time by requiring participants to post to threads, complete assignments and review content a certain number of times per week.  Because of this the attendance/term set up in Its Learning does not lend well to fully online adult participation.  It would be great if there were an option available for “does not meet during regular times but requires X# of times in attendance per week.”

reset test settings for individual students

Posted by Susan Whiting on Jul 08, 2010 01:50 PM PDT | Active

When students have a valid reason be it disabilities or excused absence the system doesn't seem to allow a test to be reset or extended for an individual student.  Is there a way for this to be accomplished that I'm just not seeing?

    Log on as option

Posted by Susan Whiting on Jul 26, 2010 11:39 AM PDT | Active

As an administrator it would be helpful to have the option to "log on as" a student or instructor so see what they are seeing at that time.  Many students will say they see an error message but can't explain exactly what they're seeing. The log on as function will allow me to better understand exactly what they are seeing when they login without having to change their password, login as them, and then notify them that their password has been changed and will need to be reset to whatever they want it to be.

change grade for student in active exam

the test 2.0 provides an option to delete a participants responses in their exams.  This wasn't available in the older test set up.  the help desk needs tell people the option is available if them migrate their tests to 2.0

    inactive course content

Posted by Susan Whiting on Jul 26, 2010 11:45 AM PDT | Active

In a perfect world in online courses the course content would be tied to the terms in which the courses reside so students couldn't view course content until the term has been reached and not visible after the term has expired.

    enrolling into multiple courses

The tool that enables you to find a course to enroll people into while in user and access rights need to have a check box in front of the courses listed so you can select more than one to enroll someone into.  The only other great option to have would be to be able to enroll people into their courses through a parser file instead of doing it manually everytime.

    report on participants

Posted by Susan Whiting on Aug 09, 2010 07:52 AM PDT | Active

as an administrator it would be great if the instructors can be added in the report on participants but only to be visible to administrators.  Occationally its important to be able to track an instructors participation in a course partiularly for instructors new to online education.

remove student view of achive courses

Posted by Susan Whiting on Aug 24, 2010 07:10 AM PDT | Active

Since Its Learning doesn't currently allow terms to active a course before or after a specific date it would be helpful if students did not have the option to show courses which teachers or administrators have moved into the archives. This would allow a course to maintain a students parcitipation (sometimes required during accreditation review) and not allow them continued access to a course.  It is not customary for higher education to provide unlimited access to courses once the course has been taught.

Having to rely on each folders specific active date can be problematic.  Removing the students access to the archives solves this problem.

    course gradebook setup

Posted by Susan Whiting on Sep 16, 2010 01:03 PM PDT | Active

When a school has 20+ courses that they use over and over it is counter productive to have to go into the different elements to select Add to Gradebook.  When a course is copied over the gradebook settings in each assignment/exam/homework should be copies as well

    statistics

Posted by Susan Whiting on Sep 22, 2010 12:21 PM PDT | Active

having to view test/exam statistics one question at a time is not a great use of instructors or administrators time.  Please provide the ability to view them all on one page and to download them to be filed with course records.
