Poor use of screen real estate:
Less information on the screen would be better. There are 8 tabs on the main page, 7 updating panes on the main page, a navigation tree of 7 options on the messages page, 6 options on the e-portfolio page....
The format on the e-portfolio page is better: icons are big, clearly legible, not hidden by other parts of a clumsy menu and highlighted with a meaninful visual - it looks like web2.0 The tree on the messages page, for example, is small, out of sight and contains no obvious icons. Many parts of the nav trees are in places where one wouldn't expect to look: for e.g. the 'you are here' navigation tool is virtually invisible and (even if it wasn't) almost completely useless since other icons can easily do its job. It looks like the internet 10 years ago.
Furthermore, on the main page much up/down and left/right scrolling has to be done to get to the relevant section, which is time consuming.
