Deactivating cancelling of time limited tests

Posted by Anders Kjaer on Nov 12, 2010 04:23 AM PST in Itslearning ideas portal | Active

If pupils take a time limited test online they have the possibility to cancel the test and return again later on.
In other words they have the possiblity of finding answers on the net or elsewhere and return to the test.
Suggestion:  a possiblity of deactivating the cancel-button.
    It's important for many teachers.

For whom do we solve a problem :
    Teachers and institutions

    Why solve this problem? :
Teachers and institutions design time limited tests so that the number of questions and their degree of difficulty is balanced against the set time limit. It is expected that pupils only have the amount of time to take the test, that is set in the time limit. If pupils by cancelling the test get extra time this is against the "logic" of a time limited test.

It's not unusual for fully online courses to provide three day access for timed exams. It's possible with this Cancel Test button for a participant to start a test with a 30 minute time limit review the questions and responses and cancel it on the first day the exam is activated look for answers, click Resume test, review the next question and responses, click Cancel test find the correct answer and do this over and over again finishing the exam three days later when it's deactivated. Instructors are furious that participants are even given this option.
