What would be useful for parents to see?

In the UK parental access is high on the agenda, BUT teachers are concerned about the workload that this might bring. They would be happy for information to be automatically displayed to parents as long as they, the teachers, could have a checkbox against each item to approve/deny it for parental viewing. It would give it's learning a huge advantage if there was an area for information that was pulled from the MIS on attendance, behaviour, assessment etc. The alternative that schools have at the moment is very expensive portal access provided by MIS providers. One electronic registration provider has started to do this data mining activity and is attracting a great deal of interest.

I agree with Steve here. The parent login should be updated automatically with the information set by either the school or by the teacher. The parent-account should also be set to automatically link to the classes their children attended so that teachers or IT-admins don't have to do it manually. I think the parents should be able to see public messages to the classes and upcoming tests with dates of expiration (without being able to do them). Access to homework plans or specific folders set by the school/teacher would also be nice.

How do you set up a parent log in, do we need a manual account for each parent?
