    FTP Access

Posted by Scott Campbell on Oct 02, 2009 12:56 PM PDT in It's learning ideas portal | Active

Hi, i can't see this being done but i think it would be great if users could use an FTP client to upload files to courses / projects. I can see a use for many people.

The current uploader sorta sucks :)

I totally agree, FTP would be a bliss.

There needs to be a more reliable way of uploading large content packages (600mB +) and web forms are not designed to handle files of these sizes. I have spoken to netmedia over the phone and they couldn't give me a viable solution other than to suggest this as an idea on here. There must be another solution. If secure FTP services with upload resume were available the problem is resolved instantly, an option to enable or disable the service through the VLE admin page would improve security. Please consider this as an option, i cannot stress how many problems we would have without this feature, especially when more and more content packages are getting larger in size. The SCORM standard doesn't seem to define a maximum size for content package zip files, a user buying software advertised as "compatible with your VLE" will find it hard to believe we cannot upload the files to our VLE at the end of the day.
