It would be convenient to be able to subscribe to alerts as an RSS feed instead of email/sms.

This is really something we teachers need, especially when teaching many courses!
Especially : We need rss feeds from the forums! In my situation with six classes, two or three courses in each this could make me gain 5-10 minutes every single work day. It should be possible to customize these rss-feeds, for instance to set up so that only discussions with two out of three colours tags are sent in a specific rss-feed.

It would be really useful if a user could choose to set an email alert within a files folder or on the left. Just like the option in the editure platfrom within a files box !

Is the RSS is public ? This is no good for alerting staff etc to upload of private documents that may contain parsonal data - Hence the email notification is still needed.
